Mom life gets busy, and sometimes, a buzzing schedule leaves little room to ourselves. Between laundry, soccer practice and work, it’s often hard to find the time, energy or motivation to work out and eat healthy, or to simply switch off and finish a good book!

There are so many parts of living healthy that we place on the backseat. We tend to forget that living healthy means focussing on our own emotional and physical needs, just as we do for our kids and spouse.

It's when we find balance in mind, body and soul that we become more productive, less stressed and excited about life. Living a healthy mom life is rewarding, and completely possible! You just have to start.

We hope the following framework will inspire you to live your healthiest mom life!

SET SIMPLE AND REALISTIC HEALTH GOALS

It's important to not have crazy expectations of what you can achieve in a short period of time. Small actions are great to prepare your mindset for bigger, long lasting results.

  • Write down your monthly, weekly and daily health goals. Include actionable items next to each of them. This way, you'll know exactly how to achieve them. You can list them in your diary or even make a mood board; whatever motivates you most.
  • Start with small, realistic goals that you can achieve today. If physical health is your goal, switch the elevator for the stairs at the office. If you're looking to improve your mental health, listen to a mindfulness podcast on your way to work. The key is to start with what you can do today, and build on that foundation.
  • Prepare mentally for setbacks, and be kind to yourself when they happen. Creating a healthy lifestyle is a journey; and getting your mind and body in balance (along with work, laundry, and kids) takes practice.
  • For a motivation boost, share your health goals with an accountability partner, or log them into an app - there are so many awesome apps out there!

TAKE CHARGE IN THE KITCHEN

The kitchen is king! If you’re serious about living your healthiest mom life, this is where you should focus most of your attention.

  • If physical health and weight loss is your goal, the first task on your list should be throwing away all the food in your pantry that may lead you away from your goals. Write down all the food you are currently eating, and slowly start to avoid the things that you feel aren't fuelling your body.
  • Another way of staying on top of your nutrition is to create a list of easy recipes that you can cook in bulk, once a week. Meal planning takes the stress out of not having the time or creative energy, to whip up a wholesome meal for your family when you get home after a long day at work. It also saves a pretty penny!
  • There are also some fantastic meal delivery services that cater healthy, wholesome family meals. Decide which nights you’ll order in, and stick to it.
  • Think of quick snacks that curb those midday cravings, and stock up! Do you and your kiddos have a sweet tooth? Keep berries in a freezer bag for a quick smoothie. Craving for savoury? Dip some carrots in a healthy hummus spread.

SCHEDULE YOUR EXERCISE AND SLEEP

When you prioritize things, they get done. Simple as that.

  • Schedule your exercise, no matter what. Exercising daily will not only improve your physical health but also help you to be a more relaxed and happy mom. Even if it means you have to swap the treadmill for a walk to the park with your kids on days where they need extra attention, you can get it done. Go mama, go!
  • If you’re lacking motivation or don’t know where to start, scroll down to follow some of our favorite fit mommies, who can help you train from home through their easy and efficient training guides and online programmes! You can also place triggers to remind yourself of your workout goals, like placing your running shoes by your bedside so it’s the first thing you see when you wake up.
  • Someone once said that world is a better place after a good night’s sleep, and we couldn't agree more. One of the best ways to optimize your health is to get some good old shut-eye. It’s great for the immune system and for overall emotional happiness.
  • We’ve also heard that you can create extra hours in the day by creating a good night routine! ;) Get yourself and the kids into a good habit of resting well after dinner time. Try listening to music or reading before bedtime. This will help you to switch your mind off for a good night’s rest.

ASK FOR HELP

Mommies, asking for help is not a weakness. In fact, it can be your greatest strength!

  • Optimizing your time is an easy way to achieve a healthy routine, and sometimes means letting someone else step in, whether it's a family member or hired help. In other words, asking for help, can HELP you achieve your health goals.
  • Asking your spouse to put the kids to bed, or to help with the dishes, can give you a few minutes to catch up on your favorite reality tv show, or allow you to get a quick workout in.
  • There are so many wonderful groups on Instagram and Facebook for mommies. These groups, people and pages on social media are incredible resources for all things fitness, nutrition and general mom-life things.

CREATE HEALTHY AND MINDFUL HABITS

A great way to achieve balance is nurturing your mind, body and soul by being present and organized.

  • Take two minutes to lay out your outfit for the next day, or make your bed in the morning. Starting your day with simple, small "wins" will make you feel productive and boost your mood. Happy mom, happy family!
  • Carry a water bottle and healthy snacks with you, no matter where you go. Place it by the front door so you don't forget to take it before leaving the house. Let your health goals stare you in the face!
  • Make time to connect with your spouse, even if it’s taking 30 minutes out to hear their top three highlights of the week over a cup of coffee or a glass of wine. Emotional health is super important!
  • Self-love is healthy! Make sure to spoil yourself with what makes you feel like like a woman. It doesn't have to be glamorous...a homemade mask is also a treat!

No matter where you are in your health and fitness journey, know that you can become your best self, by making yourself a priority!

Lower body workout. ✨ Starting off with lower body stuff until I feel comfortable enough to lift and use my upper body again. I had been mostly sitting on my butt for the last few weeks as I healed and I’m so thankful to be back to it. My lower body is where I tend to gain weight first. With my recent weight gain prior to surgery, it actually made my butt look quite nice 😂 But along with weight loss and toning up comes smaller features so I don’t expect it to stay. Therefore when I can, I’ll be squatting and lunging my barbell and focusing on deadlifts, bridges, and thrusts. I’m also avoiding any HIIT or jumping moves for the time being so my workouts are very stable and modified this week. Next week though, I’ll be easing my way back into my Strong Body Guide home workouts. 🏋🏽‍♀️ Who’s joining me?

🙏🏼 Flashback to Monday when the skies were blue and I didn’t realise how emotional this week was going to be. Feeling incredibly grateful for all the beautiful souls in my life who hold me up when I’m having tough days, this includes all of you as well. Thank you! 🙏🏼 If you’re having a tough day, week or month, please comment below. I’ll include you all in my prayers. Please know that you are never alone and you’re an incredibly strong soul who is ready for anything life throws at you. 🙏🏼 . Today my son started at his kindy (big school), rewind a few years ago and I honestly didn’t think I’d be where I am today. I suffered severely from post natal depression (far out it’s scary just thinking about that time) 😣😭 but I managed to make it through with flying colours!!! 💃🏽 I sought out an alternative doctor (Dr. Greg Emerson) who helped put my hormones back in line and since then I have worked my absolute butt off on becoming the best version of myself. I think today was so emotional because I realised I’ve achieved so much. My son is in the school where I always dreamt of him going, I’m extremely healthy mentally & physically and I’m surrounded by friends and loved ones who fill my love tank up consistently, they inspire me and they help me be the smiley soul that both Rex and I are!!! 🙏🏼 I’m crying just writing this, whilst sitting in my favourite cafe. But I’ll leave you again with my favourite quote because it’s the one line which saved my life ~ “you are under no obligation to be the person you were 5 minutes ago”. 🙏🏼

Nothing beats coming home to my little girl after a long day of meetings. 😍🙌🏼 Someone asked me the other day whether I get the “mum guilt” from working and having to leave Mia with either Declan or a babysitter. I am so grateful to be able to spend a lot of time with Mia but I can’t always have her with me when I’m working. I love being able to continue growing my businesses and achieve my dreams! I absolutely love being a mum and do want more kids and I believe that you don’t have to give up your dreams because you’re a parent. Sure having kids is definitely hard, especially with multiple kids or as a single parent and I have so much respect for all parents! 🙌🏼 I just believe that if there’s something you want for YOU then don’t just give it up because you believe it’s all over for you now because you’re a parent or because you’re “older” or whatever else. Prioritising yourself AND your dreams is not a selfish or bad thing to do. Too many believe it is and it’s just not. How can doing something that you love that makes you happy be negative for anyone? Figure out a way to do it and go get it! You deserve it. 😘 . . #emilyskye #businessmum #workingmumlife #14monthsold
